I love high school students, and I believe in them. Every kid has a story to tell about who they are and what they bring to the world. My job is to help them figure out what that story is, what colleges might be right for them, and how to tell their story in a compelling way through their applications. I find so much joy in helping these young adults discover and explore their strengths and see themselves in new ways.
I’m the right counselor for parents who are looking to create a safe, low-pressure, low-stress (but structured!) space for their kids to work through this process. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and it shouldn’t be.
During our initial consultation, I’ll meet with you to find out more about your child and their needs. I’ll give you an overview of the college application process and introduce you to my services.
Ideally, I’ll spend somewhere between 6-9 months with your child. Together, we’ll figure out what colleges seem right for them, create a college list, request recommendations, make a resume or “brag sheet” outlining their activities and accomplishments, complete applications, and write lots of essays. Most importantly, we’ll reflect on what makes them unique and what story they want to tell about who they are.
I can’t promise that your child will be admitted to their top choices for college, but I can promise to help you create a balanced college list, to do everything I can to help them come out of the process with choices, to cherish your child like you do, and to have open and honest communication. No high-pressure sales. No gimmicks. Just a personalized, caring approach to help you through the sometimes (but unnecessarily) intimidating college application experience.

“Everybody needs a Martha” is what our daughter kept saying all throughout the college process. Martha listens to the students’ wishes and maps out the best way to accomplish their college dreams. Martha developed an amazing relationship with our kid so that she trusted her all along the way. She coached her on making a balanced list that was right for her. She showed her how to research schools and how to write essays highlighting specific programs and professors at each college. Our daughter did not feel stressed when the rest of her friends were way behind or losing their minds about applications. Martha’s meetings kept our daughter on track so that she was organized and on track.
As first time parents not knowing how to navigate the college process, Martha set us at ease constantly with the right amount of communication. We were able to check in with her and ask the questions that usually resulted in an eye roll from our daughter. We are forever grateful for Martha’s help and would highly recommend her to anyone wanting the perfect amount of support during the college process for both parents and students”Courtney Mom to MadisonRead more -

”I cannot say enough about Martha at Crowe College Counseling. Martha took our son from step one all the way through the college application process. She took the time and energy to really get to know him. She helped him develop a story in his application that accurately demonstrated who he really is. In addition, she was able to create a college list for him that he was truly excited about.

Martha’s passion is her students and she cares about each and every one of them. She takes care of the whole child through this stressful and rigorous process. She is available to the student and the parents for questions, concerns and the unavoidable breakdown. “I am going to call Martha” was a commonly used phrase in our household during Fall semester. Martha taking on the college application process with our son enabled us to have a happy healthy relationship with him in his final year at home. And for that, I will be forever grateful.”

“Martha really learned who my child is and drew out his strengths so his essays authentically and impressively represented who he is. She created accountability in the process and my son thrived: he looked forward to their meetings, prepared to bring his “A” game, and walked away from every discussion with confidence, clarity, focus, and optimism. I could tell Martha really enjoys this work every time she talked to me about my amazing kid, responded quickly and patiently to my infinite questions, or shared a new insight or perspective. The parent meetings helped me with the emotional tsunami that is the college application process. Most of all, working with Martha gave me time and freedom to simply enjoy my son as a high school senior, rather than stress through managing the complex process. Our dynamic changed from supervising his actions to sitting back and watching the whole beautiful thing unfurl. We couldn’t have had this dynamic without Martha. And with 100% acceptance rate so far, we wouldn’t have been as success, either!”

“The development of insights into my child’s strengths, not only supported the applications and essays, but will have lasting effects on who he is as a person. It was great to see him gain confidence in who he is and his unique strengths!”

“I can’t rave enough about how valuable Martha’s help was for my son during the college application process. She was incredibly skillful at helping him focus his thoughts and translate them into dynamic essays, and at the same time managed the process in a way that kept him accountable, and also kept his stress level low. She helped him feel success in so many ways: feeling pride in his essays, getting all of his applications submitted by the Early Action deadline, and receiving acceptances with scholarship offers at all of his favorite schools. What makes Martha truly special is her ability to successfully guide young people through this very daunting process while keeping the focus on their well-being and personal growth. We would use her again in a heartbeat!”

“When I met Martha, I only knew her as a mother who is very supportive and active in her childrens’ lives, but I didn’t know anything about her as an individual – aside from the fact that she was a very busy person. Through the college counseling sessions I’ve had with her, she has gotten to know me better than I will ever know her. This is because of how she emphasizes the importance of connection between student and counselor. This means that before the college application process started, we first became friends. The kind of friends where they know everything about you like a best friend would, but a best friend that’s as old as your parents. I don’t know if this is the way she intended for me to think of her, but she proved this to me by helping me write essays that any college admissions officer would love. This ameliorated version of my words showed the admissions officers that I am mature and light-hearted, a good researcher and learner, and most importantly, a leader in my community. Even though most of these things are already true in my life, Martha allowed my story to become a clear pathway from the reader to me, whoever they may be. I am writing this testimonial one month after sending my last college application, and so far, thanks to the applications Martha’s extensively helped me with, I am 3/3 on acceptances, so THANK YOU Martha!!”

“Working with you Martha gave me direction and clarity in the college application process. I was able to gain extensive knowledge of the college application process (from writing essays, answering questions, application deadlines, application types, and college searches), beyond what I was taught in school. Martha helped me “market” myself better to colleges. Without her, I wouldn’t have been able to apply or meet the deadlines of all of the schools I wanted to attend. Martha helped me obtain what seemed almost impossible by making it manageable, even through the midst of a stressful and intense process all seniors face. Thank you Martha for helping me throughout last year. I have no doubt that other students will find you to be a valuable asset.”
